What is wide text?

Wide text uses full-width characters — a block of Unicode originally created so Latin letters could align with Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters, which each occupy a perfect square. Type wide and the generator swaps in w, i, d, e from that block: every letter now claims a full square cell, and even the space between words grows into an ideographic space twice the normal width.

The internet adopted these characters as the signature of vaporwave — the retro aesthetic of 90s computing, pink-and-teal gradients and slowed-down mall music. A full-width phrase instantly reads as deliberate, ironic and a little nostalgic.

Letters, numbers and punctuation all stretch.

Where wide text hits hardest

Wide characters count as more visual space but the same character count on most platforms — a 150-character bio still allows 150 full-width letters. They do, however, wrap sooner, so keep wide lines short.

Wide text FAQ

What is a wide text generator?
It converts normal letters into Unicode full-width characters — glyphs designed to occupy a full square cell, like wide. The stretch is part of the characters themselves, so it survives copy and paste into any app.
Why is wide text associated with vaporwave?
Full-width Latin letters come from East Asian typography, and the vaporwave aesthetic — built on 90s Japanese computing nostalgia — adopted them as its typographic signature. A full-width phrase instantly signals that retro mood.
Does wide text use more of my character limit?
On most platforms each full-width letter counts as one character, so your limit is unchanged. The text simply occupies about twice the visual width and wraps sooner.
Where does wide text work?
Practically everywhere: Instagram, TikTok, Discord, Twitter (X), Spotify playlist names, Twitch titles and most games. Full-width characters are among the best-supported decorated Unicode because East Asian text depends on them.
Is the wide text generator free?
Yes — free, instant and sign-up free. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing you type is stored.

Where to go next

Wide text is the backbone of the whole retro aesthetic — the vaporwave text generator builds on it with fades and frames, and the aesthetic font generator supplies the soft symbols that complete the look. If full-width glyphs ever render inconsistently, plain spaced text gives the same airiness with untouchable compatibility. Every other structural trick lives in the text effects hub.
