What is Zalgo text?

Zalgo text is normal text stacked with dozens of combining Unicode marks, the accents and diacritics that pile above, through and below each letter. The result looks corrupted or glitched, as if the text is breaking apart, which is why it's a staple of horror memes and edgy usernames.

This generator offers light, medium and heavy intensity, plus simpler glitch effects like overline and arrow marks. Light Zalgo stays readable for a subtle creepy touch; heavy Zalgo is pure chaos for maximum effect.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make Zalgo text?
Type your word in the box above and choose a light, medium or heavy intensity. Tap Copy and paste the glitched text wherever you want.
Is Zalgo text safe to paste?
It's just Unicode combining marks, so it's safe, but heavy versions can lag some apps or be filtered. Use lighter intensity if a field rejects it.
Is the Zalgo generator free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up, and nothing you type is stored.
Why does Zalgo look different across apps?
Each app renders stacked combining marks slightly differently, so the same text can look more or less intense depending on the platform.
Can screen readers read Zalgo?
Not well. Stacked marks confuse assistive tech, so avoid Zalgo for anything that needs to be understood.
