Text Effects

Text effects transform how your words behave, not just how the letters look. Flip them upside down, stretch them wide, cross them out, stack lines through them or corrupt them entirely — then copy and paste the result anywhere. Try a quick sample below, or jump to the dedicated tool for the exact effect you want.

Tap Copy next to any style. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.

What counts as a text effect?

Most pages on this site restyle the shape of letters — cursive, gothic, bubble and so on. Text effects are different: they change the geometry or structure of your text. An upside-down effect rotates every character 180°, a wide effect stretches spacing into full-width cells, a strikethrough draws a line through each letter, and a repeater multiplies the whole phrase. Under the hood they all use the same trick as our fancy text generator: Unicode characters and combining marks that carry the effect inside the text itself, so it survives copy and paste into any app.

That distinction matters when you choose a tool. If you want your name to look elegant, you want a font style. If you want your name to do something unexpected — hang upside down, march across the screen double-wide, look scribbled out — you want one of the effects below.

How each effect works — and where it holds up

Effects come in three mechanical families, and knowing which family an effect belongs to tells you where it will work well:

FamilyEffectsMechanismReliability
Character swapsUpside down, wide, superscript, subscriptEach letter is replaced by a lookalike Unicode characterExcellent — renders like normal text almost everywhere
Combining marksUnderline, crossed out, stacked, cursedInvisible marks are attached to each letter and drawn over itGood — a few apps trim or misalign heavy marks
RearrangementReverse, spaced, repeaterThe characters themselves are reordered or duplicatedPerfect — it is plain text, nothing can strip it

Character swaps are the most robust because platforms treat them as ordinary letters. Combining-mark effects occasionally get filtered by strict username fields — the same reason zalgo text rarely survives a signup form. Rearrangement effects can never be filtered, because there is nothing special to filter: reversed text is just text.

Picking the right effect for the job

Whatever effect you pick, keep one rule in mind: effects are seasoning, not the meal. One flipped word in a bio is a surprise; a whole flipped paragraph is a chore. Screen readers also struggle with heavy effects, so keep essential information in plain text.

Text effects FAQ

What is a text effect generator?
It is a tool that transforms plain text with a structural effect — flipping it upside down, stretching it wide, crossing it out, stacking lines on it or repeating it. The effect is carried by Unicode characters, so the result can be copied and pasted into any app that supports Unicode.
Do text effects work on Instagram, TikTok and Discord?
Yes. Character-swap effects like upside down and wide text work almost everywhere, including bios and captions. Combining-mark effects such as underline and cursed text work in most posts and messages but may be stripped from strict username fields.
Are these effects real formatting like in Word?
No. Word or Google Docs formatting lives in the document and disappears when you paste elsewhere. These effects live inside the characters themselves, which is why they survive pasting into bios, chats and comments that have no formatting buttons at all.
Which text effect is the most compatible?
Reversed, spaced and repeated text are literally plain text, so they can never break. Upside down and wide text are close behind because they use well-supported Unicode blocks. Heavy cursed text is the most fragile — some platforms limit stacked combining marks.
Are the text effect tools free?
Yes — every tool in this hub is free, with no sign-up and no limits. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is stored. See our Privacy Policy for details.
