Crossed Out Text Generator

Draw a line straight through any word — c̶r̶o̶s̶s̶e̶d̶ o̶u̶t̶ — and paste it into bios, comments and chats that have no strikethrough button. Four line styles, free and instant. Prefer the line underneath? That is the underline tool.

Tap Copy next to any style. Nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.

What is crossed out text?

Crossed out text has a horizontal line running through every letter, as if struck from a list — and thanks to Unicode combining marks, that line can live inside the text itself. Each letter is followed by an invisible mark that renders as a stroke through the character, so the crossed-out effect survives copy and paste into apps that have never heard of a strikethrough button. The full mechanism is described in Unicode explained.

Crossing out is unique among effects because it carries meaning, not just style: a crossed-out word says "I wrote this, deleted it, and want you to see both." That makes it the internet’s favourite tool for visible second thoughts.

How to cross out text in 3 steps

1. Type your text

The word you officially did not say.

2. Pick a line

Straight strike, slashes, tildes or double under.

3. Copy & paste

Paste it anywhere — the line travels with the letters.

Four ways to cross a word out

Style"plans"Tone
Strikethroughp̶l̶a̶n̶s̶The clean, editorial delete
Slashedp̸l̸a̸n̸s̸Diagonal — sharper, more aggressive
Tilde strikep̴l̴a̴n̴s̴Wavy — playful, half-hearted deletion
Dottedp̣ḷạṇṣMarks below — a gentler "noted, dismissed"

The straight strikethrough is the workhorse; the slashed version reads angrier; the tilde version reads like you are crossing it out while laughing.

The art of the visible correction

Where a platform offers native strikethrough (Discord’s ~~text~~, WhatsApp’s ~text~), the native version is cleaner in messages — but only Unicode crossing works in bios, names and titles, which is exactly where this tool comes in.

Crossed out text FAQ

How do I cross out text in a bio or comment?
Type your text into the generator, pick a line style and copy the result. A Unicode combining mark draws the line through each letter, so the crossed-out effect survives pasting into bios, comments and chats with no formatting support.
What is the difference between crossed out and strikethrough text?
They are the same effect — a line through the middle of the text. This tool offers the straight strikethrough plus slashed, tilde and dotted variants; our dedicated strikethrough page focuses on the classic straight line.
Why do people cross out words instead of deleting them?
A crossed-out word shows the reader both the "deleted" thought and the correction, which is a comedy and honesty device: "going to the gym every day sometimes." The deletion is the joke.
Does crossed out text work on WhatsApp and Discord?
Yes — and those apps also have native shortcuts (~text~ on WhatsApp, ~~text~~ on Discord) that work in messages only. The Unicode version from this tool additionally works in usernames, bios and channel names.
Is the crossed out text generator free?
Yes — free, unlimited, no sign-up. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is stored.

Where to go next

Crossing out is one of three places a line can go — the underline tool puts it below, stacked text puts rails on both sides, and the classic strikethrough generator is the original middle-line specialist. Stack enough marks and you arrive at cursed text. The whole line-and-mark family, plus flips, stretches and repeats, is collected at the text effects hub.
