What is upside down text?

Upside down text looks like someone rotated your sentence 180° — but no rotation is happening. The generator swaps every letter for a Unicode character that happens to look like its flipped twin: a becomes ɐ (a Latin turned letter used in phonetics), e becomes ǝ, and ? becomes the Spanish ¿. Then it reverses the character order so the sentence reads correctly when viewed upside down.

Because these are real characters rather than an image or CSS trick, flipped text pastes cleanly into places that allow no formatting at all — Instagram bios, YouTube comments, Discord messages, even plain text files.

How to flip text in 3 steps

1. Type your text

Enter a word, name or sentence. The flip updates live.

2. Pick a flip style

Fully flipped, flipped-in-place, or simply reversed.

3. Copy & paste

Tap Copy and drop it into any bio, caption or chat.

Three kinds of flip — which one do you want?

StyleExample of "hello"What it does
Upside DownollǝɥFlips each letter and reverses the order — reads correctly when physically rotated 180°
Upside Down (In Place)ɥǝlloFlips each letter but keeps the order — a stranger, half-broken look
ReversedollehNormal letters in backwards order — see the dedicated reverse text tool

The classic effect people search for is the first one. The in-place variant is popular for usernames because it keeps your name recognisable while looking corrupted, a lighter cousin of cursed text.

Where upside down text works

A few letters have no convincing upside-down twin — lowercase k and some digits are approximations. Short phrases in lowercase flip most convincingly.

Upside down text FAQ

How does the upside down text generator work?
It replaces each letter with a Unicode character that looks like its 180° rotation — a becomes ɐ, e becomes ǝ — then reverses the order so the sentence reads correctly when rotated. No images or special formatting are involved, just characters.
Does upside down text work on Instagram and TikTok?
Yes. Flipped characters are ordinary Unicode, so they work in Instagram bios, captions and comments, TikTok comments and bios, Discord, WhatsApp and Twitter (X). Only some strict username fields reject them.
Why do some letters look slightly wrong when flipped?
Unicode never designed a rotated alphabet — the generator borrows lookalikes from phonetic alphabets and other scripts. Most lowercase letters have excellent twins; a few characters like k and some digits are approximations.
Can I flip text without reversing the order?
Yes — choose the Upside Down (In Place) style. It flips every letter but keeps them in the original order, which produces a stranger, corrupted look that still resembles your original word.
Is the upside down text generator free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no limits. The flip happens in your browser and nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
